X-Ray Safety

Ionizing radiation producing device use at Georgia Tech is subject to the regulations of the Georgia Department of Community Health. Georgia Tech operates its device-produced ionizing radiation safety program according to the regulations, Radiation Safety Policy Manual, and related internal procedures.

The Office of Radiological Safety (ORS) provides services to assist with the safe use and regulatory compliance of x-ray and other ionizing radiation generating devices. These services include:

  • Safety training for all users of x-ray devices
  • Registration of devices with the Georgia Department of Community Health
  • Emergency response
  • Inspection of x-ray generating devices
  • Dosimetry services
  • Calibration of radiation detection instruments
  • Dose assessment of research projects
  • Provide information about radiation use

How to Become an X-Ray Authorized User

  1. Attend X-Ray Safety Training
  2. Complete an Application (Form A)
  3. Email the Form A to the Radiation Safety Officer
  4. Wait for approval from the Radiation Safety Committee
