For the 22nd annual Georgia Tech Earth Day Festival on April 19, 2019, EHS focused on the initiative to improve the functionality of a research building resulting in reduced energy use and increasing safety. The bioquad research buildings use one quarter of all the energy utilized by campus. Two pilot labs were selected to implement the program on a test basis. The buildings that were selected for the pilot projects are Ford ES&T and U.A. Whitaker. The display identified the various components and new equipment installation for the pilot labs. This included new room controls, auto sash closers, and a purge button for emergencies. The long term goal is to install these and additional new items in all research labs in ES&T and Whitaker in the new fiscal year.
