Biological Spills

Biohazard spills are either major or minor:

  • Major Spill:  An event that cannot be handled safely without the assistance from EHS or emergency personnel.
  • Minor Spill: An event that can be handled safely without the assistance of EHS or emergency personnel.

When spills occur inside of a biosafety cabinet (BSC), the cleanup is much easier because the BSC works to contain aerosols that were generated during the spill.
