The planning process for any lab relocation is stressful, especially when one has to consider hazardous materials. Georgia Tech’s EHS Department will assist your lab with:

  • Disposal of unneeded chemicals and hazardous waste
  • Transport of chemicals, biological materials, and radioactive material legally and safety
  • Close out of your old lab and set up of your new lab

EHS has developed a document with special move details for each type of hazard:

  • Chemicals
  • Biological Materials
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Radioactive Materials
  • X-Ray Machines
  • Lasers

This document will be available on our website once the lessons learned from the recent EBB move (June-July 2015) have been incorporated.

A few highlights to note:

  • Contact EHS as soon as you have estimated move dates.
  • If you are approved for radioactive materials, or have an x-ray machine or laser, contact ORS for additional guidance.
  • If you have a Biosafety Cabinet, contact Biosafety to schedule preparation for moving and recertification.
  • Review your chemicals, and leave all hazardous waste and unneeded chemicals (labeled with waste labels) in the old lab.

EHS is here to make your lab move as smooth as possible.
