Dr. Sankar Nair and Dr. David Sholl receiving the award

EHS enthusiastically congratulates the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering on receiving the 2015 Council for Chemical Research (CCR) University Safety Award. This award was instituted in 2014, and is presented annually to an academic department which has demonstrated significant progress in developing a culture of safety in chemical research.

The top five safety elements the CCR evaluated are:

  1. Effective and sustained leadership from the department chair and faculty
  2. Significant engagement of graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and PIs
  3. Establishment of general safety procedures and protocols combined with training of all researchers
  4. Enhanced and enforced PPE policy
  5. Effective communication of safety throughout the department and to department visitors

All of these elements are essential in creating and sustaining an effective safety culture. EHS is thrilled and excited by the high standards the School obtained to receive this award and is eager to see other schools at the Institute strive to reach these standards as well.
